UniTierraCalifas -- a space for the convivial research and insurgent learning of UT Califas

This listserve is part of the infrastructure of the Universidad de la Tierra. This virtual space adds to the on-going space of encounter for convivial researchers and insurgent learners to gather and share tools. Towards that end, the UniTierraCalifas listserve will be used to circulate information and announcements about Uni Tierra Califas initiatives and the several networked autonomous learning spaces, i.e. ateneos, theses clinics, coyunturas, talleres, and others convened virtually and on the ground. One of the principal spaces will be Tsikbal, an autonomous space of learning convened to explore autonomous alternatives to the current formation of the on-going war of racial patriarchal capitalism and the systematic destruction, conversion, and cooptation of the vernacular. A Mayan code, Tsikbal roughly translates into Spanish as desmenuzar la palabra (tsik = desmenuzar; bal = palabra). The suggestion here is the word, while essential to any form of social and, by extension, political organization can often be harsh and must be shredded in order to be shared. Of course, the focus on word is intended to claim word as a code, that is a device that signifies a concept that can be assessed as either imposed, appropriated, corrosive, and or convivial. The space being proposed then welcomes the sharing of the word, but recognizes that care must be taken as it is shared.
