Welcome to the email list for The Fellowship of Humanity -- a deep green Humanist Church community which operates Humanist Hall in Oakland, California. As a church we exist for humanists, spiritual humanists, eco-humanists, humanitarians, and deep ecologists. As a Hall we provide an affordable and user-friendly meeting space and community center for progressive, radical, and left wing organizations and persons as well as for oppressed minority communities and persons whether political, cultural, ethnic, or spiritual in nature. The Fellowship of Humanity is anti-capitalist and socialist oriented as well as environmentally and ecologically conscious. We are in process of developing a humanist spirituality in tune with the ecology of the Earth and eager to build a conscious community based on simplicity, generosity, sustainability, cooperative economics, and ideals of communitarianism -- instead of deceit, meanness, carelessness, competition, and beliefs in domination. Sustainability means that we meet the needs of nature, not just ourselves. The Earth has requirements too that we must understand and integrate into our daily lives Humanist Hall has a solar roof and native gardens. We water them with greywater and water catchment systems. We serve organic and/or local foods and use green products. We use a small-is-beautiful steady state economic model for our church business. If humans have a future, it belongs to people whose community spirit incorporates both sustainable and exciting ideas and actions.
