Picture this: You're walking by the SUB with your friends. A few of them whistle and shout "Nice legs!" at a passerby. She looks frightened.

Are you REALLY<http://really.ubc.ca/resources/> okay with this? You can change the script.

We are approaching the final week of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This week's theme is changing the culture. We believe that we all have opportunities to change our campus culture. One way to do this is to learn the tools needed to stand up and be an active witness. An active witness<http://students.ubc.ca/livewell/topics/sexual-assault/sexual-assault-awareness-month#stand-up> is someone who observes unacceptable behaviour targeted toward someone else and is brave enough to take action.

You can learn how to be an active witness and more about SAAM by coming to a number of events and workshops taking place this week. All events are free. You can click on the links below to find out more or by visiting our website students.ubc.ca/saam<http://students.ubc.ca/livewell/topics/sexual-assault/sexual-assault-awareness-month> and by following us on Twitter at #saamUBC.

We are also excited to announce that the Sociology Students' Association will be hosting a panel, Big Talk: Rape Culture in Universities<https://www.facebook.com/events/439571229531915/440895202732851/?notif_t=like>, on January 27th, from 5-7 p.m. in Buchanan A102. It will be an interdisciplinary panel discussion on the attitudes, values, and traditions that create the space and opportunity for sexual violence on campus. Panelists include Jennifer Gagnon (Political Science), Scott Anderson (Philosophy), Maegan Thomas (Spoke Word Coordinator for SFU Radio), Kerry Greer (Sociology), Natalie Clark (Social Work), Tal Nitsán (Anthropology), and Emily Monaghan (UBC student and activist).
