Hi folks,

The Vancouver International Women in Film Festival is coming up from March
4-8 and there are some incredible films playing. For the full schedule,
visit: http://www.womeninfilm.ca/Shcedule_2015.html

WIFTV has been kind enough to offer WAM! Van a group rate for a screening
if we can get 10 or more people together. Depending on how many people are
interested, WAM! should be able to cover the ticket cost, or at least
significantly subsidize it.

Here is the screening information:

*Highway of Tears <http://highwayoftearsfilm.com/>: Saturday, March 7 at
12:00 noon, followed by a panel discussion*

"Since the late 1960s, many young women have disappeared or been found
murdered along the 724-kilometre stretch of Highway 16 in northern British
Columbia. Most of these women are from First Nations communities and are
victims not only of murderous predators but of the systemic racism of
governments that have shown little interest in apprehending their killers.
The film not only movingly relates the personal stories of the victims and
their families, but investigates how the legacy of colonialism contributed
to their tragic fates -- and how contemporary First Nations leaders are
striving to change that legacy."

Preceded by the short film: *Freedom Babies* (Canada, 22 min)

"This documentary follows a First Nations woman over the course of a year
as she resists the colonization of her people by not registering her
children with the government, educating them in a warrior school, and
living off the land while living in a traditional earth pit house."

Please *email wamvancouver at gmail.com <wamvancouver at gmail.com>* (rather than
replying to the entire list) if you are interested in coming to see this
film. If we can get at least 10 people together it'll be a go!

Thanks!
