Monday Media Mutiny is back! *Mark your calendars for Monday Oct 6.*

The Vancouver municipal election is coming up this fall. Given the recent
debacle in which Trish Kelly was forced to pull out of her run for parks
board
<http://www.straight.com/news/688731/trish-kelly-quits-vision-vancouver-park-candidate-halt-distractions-over-her-sex-positive-activism>
because
of her past sex-positive theatre work, the issue of sexist political
reporting is front of mind for many in our city.

*Join us for a casual, take-action night on sexist media coverage of
politics. *Come and connect with other awesome feminists about this issue,
and *do* something about it!

When:   *Monday Oct 6th, 7-9PM*
Where: * Calhoun's Cafe,* 3035 W Broadway
<https://www.google.ca/maps/place/Calhoun's+Bakery+Cafe+Ltd/@49.264224,-123.172868,15z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xb7eca272aa1b4783?sa=X&ei=wc4oVOmGM8q9igLqsYCYDQ&ved=0CJkBEPwSMAo>
(to
be confirmed)

We will be putting together a list of dos and don'ts for local journalists
likely to be reporting on the election this fall. Organizers (myself and
Jarrah Hodge) will take the list and turn it into a public letter,
delivering it to these reporters and posting it on our platforms, within
about a week of the event.

We know it can often seem like sexism in the media is a given. That sexist
political reporting is inevitable. As WAM!mers, to that we say "CHALLENGE
ACCEPTED!" Let's get together, have tea, rant and rave, and do something
productive. Together.

See you there.

Natalie (and Jarrah)

PS: This event is a follow-up to *Let Us In! A forum on sexism in politics,*
<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/let-us-in-a-forum-on-sexism-in-politics-tickets-12816748239?utm_campaign=order_confirm&ref=eemailordconf&utm_medium=email&utm_source=eb_email&utm_term=eventname>
taking place this Friday Oct 3rd. If you don't have a ticket to this event,
attending our Monday Media Mutiny event on Oct 6th is a great way to
participate.

PPS: Apologies for sending 3 emails to the listserv all at once. That's
what happens when you get a burst of WAM! energy! Hope it all lands. Cheers.
