[Wamvan] Fresh of the presses! Tip-sheet for reporters made by YOU

Hello WAM!mers,



After a few great events earlier this month, *we have created a useful
document for journalists, based on your concrete ideas and insights about
sexism in politics and political reporting. We’re pleased to be sharing it
today!*



Thanks to everyone who came out to our Monday Media Mutiny (MMM) event on
October 6th, and to those of you who came to the forum on sexism in
politics organized by Trish Kelly on Oct 3. At both events we heard lots of
interesting thoughts about sexism in the media, especially related to
politics and elections. At the Oct 6th event we and a sharp group of women
drew up a list of tips for journalists to avoid sexist political reporting,
in light of the municipal elections coming up next month.



*Over the past week Jarrah and I turned these conversations into a short
tip-sheet for reporters*. We’ve formatted it as a press release, with the
rationale that this structure may make it more likely to be seen and/or
ready journalists who are pretty used to this convention. We also included
a ‘fast facts’ section, on the advice of one of the MMM attendees who had
some good insights into what catches journalists’ attention.



A huge thank you to everyone who came out to those events and gave us your
input! *Please let us know if you have any feedback, questions or concerns.*
While we are going to ‘go live’ with the document, we can always make
changes going forward if anyone’s concerned or feels we didn’t capture
things accurately.
