How does systemic sexism discourage or prevent women from taking leadership
roles and entering public life? The event is at 6:30PM at SFU Harbour
Centre.
WAM!mers myself (Natalie) and Jarrah Hodge will be enthusiastically
womaning a table at the event, engaging participants on the issue and
live-tweeting their advice to journalists on how not to be sexist in their
coverage of city politics and the upcoming municipal election.
Ways you can be involved:
- *Attend the talk**
The event appears to be 'sold out', but there is a waitlist and there
will likely be no-shows.
Click here to get on that list.

- *Come to the venue and engage at the WAM! table *
There will be lots of great conversations happening outside the actual
forum, so come on down, drop your knowledge, and participate in our social
media campaign. We will be capturing (via tweet pics) your advice to
journalists on how not to be sexist this election season.
- *Join the conversation on twitter through #womenpoli *
tweet your 2 cents or tips for journalists on how *not* to be sexist
when covering the election, with #womenpoli, or if you have the characters,
tag on #vanpoli too!
Another great way to participate is to *attend our follow-up Monday Media
Mutiny event on Oct 6th* - we will be hosting our own 'forum' on this
issue, with a specific focus on sexist media coverage. We will compile and
deliver a list of dos and don'ts for journalists in Vancouver, in the lead
up to the election.
*MMM happens this Mon, Oct 6th - 7-9PM at Calhouns' Cafe on West Broadway.*
If you already have a ticket to this event, please be sure to stop by at
our table! If not, we hope you can still participate in this important
conversation through the other channels above.
Hope to see some of you there,
Natalie (and Jarrah)
