[Wamvan] City of Vancouver formally declares city is on unceded Aboriginal territory

WAM! begins every event with a discussion of Vancouver being on unceded Coast
Salish Territory, specifically the land of the Skwxwú7mesh, Xwméthkwyiem,
and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. And we try to incorporate the history of
colonization of Aboriginal peoples, as well as the traditional knowledge of

So I was wondering what you all think about the Vancouver city council
unanimously voting to acknowledge that the city is on unceded Aboriginal
territory. Is this a significant development and is anyone familiar with
the back story of how this came about?
