Thanks, for the kind words and those resources, Candace.

As for how effective it was, we'll have to wait and see. The process is
really interesting - once the committee has decided on the witnesses they
want to hear and everyone has testified, the policy analysts assigned to
the committee are tasked with drafting a report that must contain reference
to every witness' testimony. Then the committee goes in camera and the
government can strike parts of the report that they don't agree with. The
opposition is not allowed to talk about what happens in this session but
they can produce a "shadow report" based on the original testimony, and
they can draw attention to aspects of testimony that were left out of the
final report.

My understanding for this issue is that there is broad cross-party
consensus that there are serious gaps in the system and I didn't see any
areas of disagreement among the witnesses. The fact that I was asked
questions by MPs from every party I think is a positive sign. So I don't
think we can expect a lot of partisan wrangling before the final report.

After that the government will need to decide whether or not to take action
on specific items. My understanding is the Conservative MP who proposed the
study is hoping to get a Canada-wide action plan on eating disorders, and
this is supported by the other parties.

I'm hopeful that, at minimum, the final report will give advocates and
medical professionals more of a toe-hold to argue with government on
changes needed.
