Hi Jarrah, wow, what important work. Thank you for sharing this.

How women are represented in popular culture has been a passion of mine for the past ten years. I'm currently in the teachers training (PDP) at SFU and last week I started a unit with a grade five class, where they are considering their past and current choices in toys, activities, and shows through a "gender stereotypes" lens, and then considering the impact on identity, gender roles, and peer bullying. I'm pretty excited. Through the PDP I have also been introduced to igirl (http://www.saleemanoon.com/igirl/), an organization that does workshops in schools with children and youth regarding the sexualization of women; just in case people are interested in checking it out.

Continuing on the sentiment of resource sharing, here's a shirt video assignment I made a few semesters back about sexual objectification in advertising: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-3VSzOkQ34. There are some relevant sources at the end that may be helpful.

Finally, out of curiosity, how did you feel about the effectiveness of the meeting, and the discussions about future action?

Take care, Candace :+)

In this post at my blog I include my 10-minute opening statement and a link to the entire meeting, which included 3 other witnesses (two medical experts and an advocate who shared her daughter's story) and Q&A from MPs.
