*Vancouver's Ban on Smoking in Parks and on Beaches: Is it Working? Is it
Fair?*

It has been 4 years since Vancouver enacted a bylaw prohibiting smoking on
beaches and in the parks. With the support of the Canadian Institutes of
Health Research(CIHR), researchers at the BC Centre of Excellence for
Women's Health have conducted a series of studies to assess the impact of
the ban. We have learned that there is a great deal of support for the ban
but that it is not always enforced, that smokers can be found in many
parks, and some people question whether a total ban is really necessary or
practical.
