[Wamvan] Help Support Morgentaler Clinic and #NBProChoice Advocates

Hi everyone,

If you've been on social media today you might have seen the very bad news
that the Fredericton Morgentaler Clinic is being forced to close its doors
at the end of July after waging a 20-year battle with provincial and
federal governments for funding.

The New Brunswick government had refused to fund abortions in the clinic
(and the federal government failed to hold them accountable to do so under
the Canada Health Act), which meant each woman was responsible for paying
$800 for the procedure. Because many were unable to raise the money,
Morgentaler contributed personally to ensure people got the services they
needed. The clinic paid for over $100,000 of shortfall, and Morgentaler
personally paid over $100,000 to repair flood damage to the clinic after
the flood in 2008, when they were denied insurance.

The closure will mean the only other option for people needing an abortion
in New Brunswick will be to have it performed in a hospital with the
sign-off of two doctors who deem it to be "medically necessary".

I've posted the media release from the clinic with more background, as well
as three things we can all do right now to show our support for the clinic
and the need for funded, accessible reproductive health services in New
Brunswick (and PEI, which has no clinics so also relies on the Fredericton
clinic for service).
