I'm concerned that some media outlets and UBC itself is giving the impression - directly or indirectly - that the only problem here is the chant itself and not the rape culture it represents.After all, goes that logic, we are in a 'post feminist' era just as we've been in a 'post racist' era since the day Barack Obama was elected US president and so surely we don't have to waste any more time talking about how sexist or racist our society is. Therefore, if we get rid of these chants, the problem is solved.
Perhaps, we could have a discussion about how to open people's eyes as to what the chant represents and how to speak up both against the chant itself and the mindset it promotes.
