Happy New Year! We've got a lot of WAM!ming planned for the next few
months. Read on for details -- we can't do it without you.

   WAM!on,

Jaclyn Friedman, Executive Director
New Year, New Board

It's a good time of year for new beginnings, so it feels extra-appropriate
to have the first update of the New Year be about the fantastic new members
of our Board of Directors.

First, a big thanks to outgoing Board members DeAnne
Cuellar<http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=MEnsk5trhQN%2Fn6qqaliUIyIUWjsGgNAo>and
Ruthie
Ackerman<http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=XWP0QpcVwrp5MhNGIzrutSIUWjsGgNAo>for
their services. We couldn't have arrived at this moment without them.

Taking the WAM!Helm in 2013 is our new Board President Sabrina Hersi
Issa<http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=kitPBHdUmBymzBYXr%2F5hfCIUWjsGgNAo>,
recently named one of Forbes' 30 under 30 in Law &
Policy<http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=DQfG630qhLANX0PzRkR8BiIUWjsGgNAo>.
Joining her in leadership are longtime WAM!bassador of Technology Deanna
Zandt<http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=vSWdfIG9RduPeNXmu1a9DCIUWjsGgNAo>,
brilliant writer/editor (and founder of Jezebel.com) Anna
Holmes<http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=SHInqFUT2uEQ0dcTkCUv6CIUWjsGgNAo>,
youth media maven Ingrid Hu
Dahl<http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=wZT%2FJt1DyeNws4xGdnO9VCIUWjsGgNAo>,
and media and economic justice organizer extraordinare Tracy Van
Slyke<http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=uCXFxKDz5E9yeeYKGBkuoyIUWjsGgNAo>.

I can't wait to see their leadership and vision in action for WAM!. We
couldn't be in better hands!

How do you want to WAM!?

Let me paint you a word picture of the atmosphere here at WAM! People are
buzzing, plans are hatching, giant metaphorical cogs are turning. Because
it’s only two short months until WAM! It Yourself time!

WAM! It Yourself is the raw, unadulterated awesome that happens when we get
together; our annual decentralized conference. In the past we’ve had
women-themed film festivals, drop-in mentoring, Feminist Media Makers
conferences and
<http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=toD89FGkiNMrfEEMgBayyyIUWjsGgNAo>much
more<http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=nbMca0TYarjARvt7OnwfNCIUWjsGgNAo>,
but your imagination is the limit. What’s your passion? Do you know of a
pressing issue facing women in media today? Suggest a session so we can all
learn about it too. As well as a whole bunch of interested people, your
future collaborators or friends may very well be in the audience.

Harness the power of the WAM!mers in your area and take action by
submitting a <http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=0SUeFwxG3OC0%2FPI0edEX2CIUWjsGgNAo>
proposal<http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=uCXFxKDz5E%2BDTp1u4hbf5SIUWjsGgNAo>
today.
We want to hear from you!

It's almost here: WAM!CAN

After y'all joined in last summer to fund our WAM! Community Action Network
(WAM!CAN)<http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=TM%2FXj3jezA6E%2Fe3Bk0atGyIUWjsGgNAo>,
we've been hard at work building it. And I'm thrilled to say that it's very
nearly ready for you.

Once it launches in February, WAM!CAN will bring us all together once a
month to take a specific, targeted action for gender justice in media.
We'll measure what works and what doesn't as we go, so that with every
action we take, we'll become even better at creating the media ecosystem we
all deserve.

And for a bonus, it all comes with a gorgeous reboot of the WAM! website,
developed in collaboration with Cornershop
Creative<http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=xanqN%2FRrSydJvfx6DgpuMyIUWjsGgNAo>.
All will be revealed in just a few weeks, so you can imagine that we're
super-busy trying to make it the best it can be. Stay tuned, because you're
not going to want to miss this.
