Here are two events/contests geared towards young, aspiring journalist and
filmmakers. Both are happening this weekend.

This is a one-day workshop open to film students and featuring:

*The Art of Visuals, with CBC Vancouver Videographer
Videographer for Canada's national broadcaster knows how to tell the story
with visuals.
*Finding Your Genre. with Mark Yuen, Vancouver Sun
How to produce and execute: the importance of pre-production, how to
assemble a crew, one-man band.
*Great Movie Moments, with Katherine Monk, national film reviewer for
Postmedia
What are the elements of a great cinematic moment?
Learn the success and failure of a scene of a film.
*Animation with Vancouver Film School

Tickets are $20 and price includes lunch.

*CBC News Day*

Students are invited to take over our airwaves!

Know a student in grade 10-12 who dreams of being a reporter? *CBC News Day
in BC is back*. Students are invited to attend one of our workshops this
weekend, where they can meet CBC and Vancouver Sun personalities, learn
more about the exciting world of journalism, and find out how to be a News
Day student reporter.

After the workshop, they will be invited to come back and audition for a
spot on this years News Day team. *All 30 finalists will receive a $1000
scholarship* for post secondary studies, courtesy of Sylvan Learning.

Journalism workshops will be held in the Alice MacKay Room at the Central
Branch of the Vancouver Public Library, in downtown Vancouver, on *February
2nd & 3rd, 2013.*
