Hi folks,

So DOXA film fest is coming up May 3 to 12 and there are a ton of
neat-looking movies (if you search by genre you can see the ones on women's
rights, race and power, queer, and other activist/social justice themes).
I'm community-partnering to help promote the screening of Anne Braden:
Southern Patriot and have a couple single tickets to give away. Info is
here:

http://www.gender-focus.com/2013/04/22/giveaway-tickets-to-anne-braden-southern-patriot-at-doxa/

The film is made by two American women (at least one will be at the
screening) and focuses on the experiences of Anne Braden, a woman who has
been a life-long activist on class and race issues since the 1950s, through
the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War, and apartheid in South Africa.
I think it looks pretty cool and hey - you might get to go for free if you
enter the giveaway!

(on a side note, I am interested for someone to ask the filmmakers why they
chose to profile a white woman activist who worked on race issues rather
than a woman of colour)

Hope everyone is doing well and see some of you at the online media mutiny
tonight!

Jarrah
