Media Democracy Days Hands-On Media Workshops
Media Democracy Days would like to invite you to its upcoming annual
event and to be part of the workshops that will take place on Friday,
November 2 at the Vancouver Public Library in the AlmaVan Dusen room .
As part of our motto, " Know the media, Be the media, Change the
media," these three hands-on workshops offer the possibility for
citizens to develop the skills to participate in the media-making
process.
1) Making Radio For Social Change: From 1:00-2:20 p.m.
This workshop will be led my members of CFRO Community Radio and will
allow participants to find out more about broadcast journalism and the
advantages of community radio.
2) Promoting the Missing Stories : From 2:30-3:50 p.m.
Hosted by rabble.ca , one of Canada's leading non-profit independent
media organizations, this workshop aims to engage participants in both
identifying under reported stories and developing new strategies for
how we might make them more visible.
3) Media, Revolutions and Regimes : From 4:00-5:20
Hosted by The Cinematheque, this workshop will engage participants in
the in the discussion of how different media tools have been used to
attempt to surveil and control societies, and how the very same
weapons can be taken up as weapons of revolution.

About Media Democracy Days
Launched in 2001, MDD western Canada’s signature event for the growing
global media democratization movement. This movement seeks to create a
more participatory media system by supporting independent and public
service media production, celebrating innovation and creating dialogue
around the politics and biases linked to our increasingly corporate
and concentrated media. This year, MDD events will be taking place
over two-days at SFU Woodward’s Goldcorp Centre for the Arts and the
Vancouver Public Library – Central Library. To learn more, visit
