Hello,

My name is Anna Malkin, I'm also Lulu Laru from the LGBTQ positive website,
onmyplanet.ca<http://ubc.us2.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=e15ad08159c90514a632408b9&id=8baa1f9b25&e=e52c415904>
.
I'm a queer film and video maker and have been producing independent and
queer content film and video for about 20 years. You can see some of my
work at: www.annamalkin.com<http://ubc.us2.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=e15ad08159c90514a632408b9&id=f717898bee&e=e52c415904>
.

I am currently developing a documentary video that would chronicle the life
experience of LGBTQ people from all ages, genders, orientations, and
cultures within BC and I'm looking for people that would be interested in
telling their queer stories on video. The intent of the documentary is to
represent as diverse an LGBTQ community as possible. The video will work
toward dispelling stereotypical ideas about the LGBTQ community and
broadening the general concept of who we are, with the ultimate goal of
reducing homophobia and heterosexism.

In conjunction with the website,
onmyplanet.ca<http://ubc.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e15ad08159c90514a632408b9&id=59ad22464a&e=e52c415904>
, I am interested in including the story videos collected / produced for
the documentary in The Queer Story Archive online. The Queer Story Archive is
housed at onmyplanet.ca<http://ubc.us2.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=e15ad08159c90514a632408b9&id=c51cdb84d0&e=e52c415904>
and is a growing collection of individual stories on video and in text,
from queer people of all ages, genders, orientations and cultures. If the
video subjects are opposed to the use of their video on the website, use of
the video footage may be limited to use within the documentary.

At the moment I am at the beginning of the process of producing this
documentary. In order to get it off the ground I need to have a number of
interested subjects confirmed for video shoots beginning in the fall of
2012, and be in possession of a short synopsis of their respective stories
by the late May, 2012.

I know that making these stories accessible online has already changed
lives. I know it works to help queer people who are coming out, are
isolated, in remote areas, or just need a little affirmation. I also know
that these stories will work to educate the willing heterosexists and
homophobes. I've seen the Archive stories bring LGBTQ people closer to
their families and friends, start conversations that are long overdue and
bolster spirits within the community.

As simple as it may seem, coming out and being out is still the most
effective act one can take to help educate the people around you and these
videos are the next best thing. As tiresome as it may be for those of us
who deal with it all the time... the responsibility comes back to all of us
within the LGBTQ community to educate, to defend and promote our human
rights, to rise above our own internalized homophobia, and to provide good
role models to our queer youth.

My hope is that you might also find the value in this video project
and *circulate
this email to your membership* *and* *email list and/or post the
information on your website. *The participation of your community is essential
for the life of this project.

If you could please confirm that you received this email and/or if you are
willing to send it on to your members I would appreciate it.
If you are interested in participating in the project, or if you have any
questions or concerns regarding this project please don't hesitate to
contact me.
Thanks so much for your attention,
Anna,
AKA Lulu
