hi folks,

A colleague of mine is looking to connect with folks who identify as Black
and are interested reflecting on Blackness and identity in Canada. Please
see below for the details. If you fall within these parameters and wish to
participate, you may connect with Chandra Martini at chands at shaw.ca. Otherwise
if you could help me circulate this request, i'd really appreciate it.

Thank you for your support.

All the best,
geraldina

I'm doing some research for a Nova-Scotia based filmmaker who's doing a NFB
film about Blackness and identity in Canada in the 21 C - my job is to talk
to people in Calgary and Vancouver who have something to say on the
subject. I'm wondering whether you know of any interesting Black people,
particularly Black women, who might be willing to have a very casual chat
with me.

I'm looking to talk to people who identify as or who may be identified by
others as Black or of African Descent, and who have something to say about
Blackness and identity in Canada in the 21st Century. I'm wondering about
what the experience of Blackness means, what it looks likes in day to day
life, the role it plays in forming identities. I'd like to talk to anyone
who has spent some time in BC, whether just a year or their whole lives,
and who can speak to the questions I have mentioned. Ideally I'd give them
a call this week before Thursday, as my deadline is approaching, but we
could also arrange to correspond via email, and possibly see about
connecting after this week.

If they're interested in knowing more about what the film might look like,
they can check out the director's two previous NFB films. Her name is
Sylvia Hamilton, and her films are called _Speak It!_ and _Black Mother,
Black Daughter_. Both can be found on the National Film Board website.
There's no guarantee that anyone I speak to will be in the film, but we can
chat about whether they would be willing to talk to Sylvia in the future
and potentially to be interviewed for the film.
