Hi folks,

 Been a while since I posted one of my articles here, but I think you may
be interested in my piece about the racial discrimination lawsuit filed
last month against ABC and the production companies behind "The Bachelor"
and "The Bachelorette." For 24 seasons and ten years, the franchise has
never once had a star who wasn't white...and the lawsuit is a class action
based on the same legal statutes used to desegregate businesses in the
1960s South:

I hope you'll blog about it or talk about it in social media. I was
actually kind of amazed at the quotes I got from industry insiders. I
interviewed a high-level network programming exec who talked about
diversity being the thing that would "destroy the franchise" (using that
phrase or the phrase "damage the franchise") seven times in one interview.
But my favorite quote in the piece is from a former Bachelor producer:
 >>Fleiss’s former *Bachelor* employee isn’t concerned with societal
impact. “I realize this completely contradicts the FCC thing about being in
service to the community, but I don’t think there’s any responsibility
other than to entertain, and maximize profit for shareholders,” he said.<<
 The better the metrics they get for this piece, the more likely they'll
let me do similarly critical reporting on gender and race in media issues
in the future... so if you can blog about it or share/tweet/"like"/comment
about it from their site, whatever, that'd be hugely helpful.
