Subject: [WAM!] Seeking coverage: international campaign to end rape in
conflict
To: "Women, Action & the Media" <wamlist at googlegroups.com>
All-
Many of you will remember the Nobel Women's Initiative conference I
attended last year with activists & survivors from around the world, to
grapple with the question: how do we end rape in conflict? This
international campaign, launching this week, right now, is the answer.
Nobel Peace Laureates have joined. International activists are on board.
Survivors of violence are signing up en masse. Alfre Woodard, Charlize
Theron and Eve Ensler have taken the pledge. This can work. Rape in
conflict is not inevitable, and we can stop it.
There are events happening all over the globe this launch week, which you
can read about here: http://www.stoprapeinconflict.org/events And I'm
happy to get any of you a press kit, or put you in touch with the
organizers. I'd desperately love to see some strong WAM!er support for this
campaign launch THIS WEEK, which will only succeed if it attains critical
mass. It's being organized by women who really do know how to create global
change, including nearly all the living female Nobel Peace Laureates.
Having had the honor of working with a few of them, I genuinely believe it
can succeed.
I'm happy to write a piece for anyone who needs a writer on this, or assist
your coverage in any way that would be helpful. Can we make some noise on
this this week?
