Mental Health Week 2012 at Strathcona Team
Tuesday, May 8th to Thursday, May 10th, 2011

Every year, Strathcona Mental Health Team provides a one-week opportunity
for our community
to come together to discuss issues related to mental health and addictions.
Space is limited to
100 people and we have only about 75 chairs; so if you are interested and
want to have a seat,
get here early. The talks are open to everyone, there is no fee, and no
registration is
necessary.

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012: 10:00 - 12:00. Covering the bases downtown: Which
programs are
supposed to support which populations of people? Gerry Bradley, Team
Manager from
Strathcona Mental Health Team and the West End Mental Health Team, Gail
Boivin, Manager
Clinical Housing Outreach Teams; and Sonja Sinclair, Community Court and
Related Projects.

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012: 1:30 – 3:30. "Are you too depressed to find or keep
work: The latest
thinking on the treatment of depression." Dr. Tony Sehon, Psychiatrist at
Strathcona Mental
Health Team.

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012: 10:00 - 12:00. “Major Mental Illness Unplugged:
What are the
common symptoms and/or experiences for people and what is generally
helpful. Dr. Sean
Nolan, Psychiatrist and Ashley Peterson, Nurse Case Manager, both from
Strathcona Mental
Health Team.

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012: 1:30 to 3:30 "Police and Mental Health: Partners
in community
care." George Scotton, Manager, Shannon Flannery, Manager for Mental Health
Emergency
Services, Gerry Bradley, Manager, and a police officer from the ACT Team.

Thursday, May 10th, 2012: 10:00 – 12:00. "Personality Disorders; What are
they, and how do
you treat them. Dr. Wohan Wanis, Psychiatrist at the West End Team, and
Charlotte Jackson,
Mental Health Counsellor at the Downtown Community Health Centre.

Thursday, May 10th, 2012: 1:30 to 3:30. “Con-current disorders: The
challenges and benefits
of moving towards recovery. This workshop aims to provide and promote
sharing of helpful
information and strategies to benefit both clients and service providers.”
Sean Murphy,
Occupational Therapist and Mathew Ross, Health Care Worker, both from
Strathcona Mental
Health Team.
