People at several different anti-oppression workshops have expressed
interest in a follow up workshop that looks more at what it means to be an
ally / be in solidarity. We would like to invite anyone who has been to an
intro to anti-oppression workshop (whether through SFPIRG or elsewhere), or
who has an understanding of anti-oppression analysis and values, to attend
this workshop and learn more about how to be an ally and stand in
solidarity with those facing oppression. Email

Theme: The Close Reading - Finding the spirits in the poem*

A salon series that explores voice, reading and craft in poetry rooted
within / emerging out of grassroots communities and communities of

Alluri, Dalannah Gail Bowen, Nadia Chaney, Mercedes Eng and Rita Wong. Also
featuring performances by Obediya Jones-Darrell, Claire Wilson & Mohamed
Assani. We welcome all lovers and practitioners of poetry, but especially
encourage participation by Indigenous poets and poets of colour. To

who are committed to ending the oppression of fat people, and to working

Part of the International Literature Festival Berlin's (ILB) worldwide
reading of Chinese author and 2010 Nobel Peace prize laureate Liu Xiaobo,
this event will feature readings from Liu's human rights literature. An
introduction and commentary on the significance of Liu's activities and his
writings will be given by scholars and experts as well.

The title of the film is a reference to the poem by Faiz urging the
revolutionary task of speaking the truth about society.Zainub Khan,
sentenced to be hanged, is granted her last wish to tell her story to the
media. She tells of her poor family in Lahore with seven daughters and an
intersexed child brought up as a boy.There will be a discussion following
the screening. Seating is limited.

The Vancouver stop of the WE Canada cross-country tour, Dialogue and Action

the global scale at the Earth Summit 2012. The event will also feature a
talk by Aleksandra Nasteska, co-founder of We Canada.

anniversary of the 1960 Sharpeville Massacre in South Africa when police
opened fire on hundreds of South Africans protesting against Apartheid's
passbook laws, killing 67 and wounding 186. Collectively, we join friends
and allies around the world to mark this day and to speak the truth about
racism. We encourage our friends and allies to be pro-active in countering
racism. Join us in solidarity and resistance on March 18th to celebrate the
dignity, strength, and resilience of our communities.

*"Atoms for Peace": Hiroshima and Japan's Hidden Nuclear Agenda *

Toshiyuki Tanaka, professor of History at the Hiroshima Peace Institute
under the Hiroshima City University, will lecture on how Hiroshima was
particularly targeted for the purpose of promoting nuclear energy by the
U.S. in the 1950s, and how the Japanese people became heavily influenced by
this nation-wide propaganda of "Atoms for Peace". It will also examine the
inter-relationship between Japan's nuclear energy program and its hidden
but continuing interest in maintaining the capability to produce nuclear
weapons.
