[Wamvan] Media Action Media Represent Project

Hi fellow WAM-ers,

A couple of related things:

1. I'm now the Vancouver Miss Representation Social Action Rep coordinator.
The previous coordinator, Mubnii, just moved away for school. The Miss
Representation people are lovely but probably busy and have been really
slow at sending my intro message out to anyone else who's registered as a
Social Action Rep in the Lower Mainland. If any of you was registered as a
Social Action Rep could you email me directly so we can talk about what we
see as our role and potential future activities? I see it mainly as
leveraging the Miss Representation name/materials/resources to draw
attention to those issues while also collaborating and coordinating between
the various different groups in Vancouver so we aren't duplicating/stepping
on each other's toes.

2. Also looking at using the success of Miss Representation to make a
Canadian impact is the new group Media Action Media. They are in the midst
of launching a YouTube contest and film festival around body image and
feminist media literacy (info here:
http://www.media-action-media.com/representproject/) that would include
campus outreach and workshops. Because their folks are mostly in Ontario
they are looking for western campus contacts at women's/womyn's centres,
Women's Studies departments, etc. It's really in the planning stages right
now, so if anyone knows who they should be getting in touch with at BC
colleges/universities, please get in touch with me so I can share that info
with their coordinating team. When it gets further down the road maybe the
WAM core group would like to consider if/how they would like to be involved?
