 Poverty is conservatively costing BC between $8-9 billion a year, and low
income Canadians have 10 less years of healthy life than those with a high
income. Tackling poverty would benefit most of the people of BC and there
is no reason why BC couldn’t start reducing inequality immediately by
increasing welfare rates.****
