 My name is Darren Ho and I'm part of a group called Our City of Colours,
formed in March of 2011. The mandate of the group is to* **increase the
visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and queer (LGBTQ) people in a variety
of linguistic and cultural communities in the Metro-Vancouver area*.
Currently, we are focused on the Chinese, Korean, Persian, and Punjabi
community. We hope to expand to more communities later on.

The main way we are accomplishing our mission is by creating *posters with
LGBTQ people from different backgrounds*. On these posters are various
phrases describing the person (ex., Plays volleyball, Has a pet bulldog) as
well as the tagline at the bottom identifying the person as part of the
LGBTQ community. Attached is one of our posters, and more can be found on
our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/ourcityofcolours).

The purpose of these posters is to *foster discussion and awareness of
LGBTQ people in these different ethnic communities*. We believe that these
communities are underserved when it comes to LGBTQ resources and we wish to
begin to bridge this gap through these posters. Our message is that LGBTQ
people exists in all communities and we need to acknowledge them and begin
to talk about issues pertaining to LGBTQ people. One of the main things we
want to get across is that sexuality is only one part of a person, and that
LGBTQ people are so much more than their sexuality. With the various
phrases, we hope to let people know that LGBTQ people have rich, diverse
personalities just like everyone else.

*It would be very much appreciate if you could offer support us in any
capacity, whether that be spreading our message, putting up some posters
for us or directing us to places where we could spread our message. *We
have printed out over 2000 posters and we are now looking for places where
they can be put up. If you would like some posters for your office,
workplace, or organization, please email us (ourcityofcolours at gmail.com)
and we will mail or personally deliver the posters to you.

Our City of Colours is a grassroots project and very much tied to the
community. It is our goal to reach out as much as we can to various people
and organizations. We would be grateful for your help and support.
