[Wamvan] Social - my update etc

Hi Wam-ers,
It was great to meet some of you yesterday, and thanks to the organizers for organizing!
I thought I'd send a note about that magazine that I write for and am on the editorial board of. It's called Tikkun; it comes out of Berkeley, and is a somewhat eclectic social/political magazine. The editor-in-chief is Rabbi Michael Lerner; he has been involved in every fight for social justice for decades (civil rights, anti-Vietnam, gay rights, environmentalism, feminism etc. etc.). As he is a Rabbi, one of his pet causes is the relationship between Israel/Palestine, and his view (and that of the magazine) calls for an immediate two-state solution, along with a truth and reconciliation process amongst many other healing strategies.
The print magazine comes out 4 times a year (it used to be bi-monthly, but major budget cutbacks forced the change), but there is also an online component to Tikkun.
Though it is hard to get articles in the print magazine, they do take pitches, and they are always interested in writers for the online magazine (Tikkun Daily Blog).
If you are interested, have a look online (Tikkun.org) and check out the Daily Blog as well, and if you think you might have a pitch, let me know and I can put you in touch with the managing editor. Pitches do have to be quite well-formulated and have to fit somehow with Tikkun's general sensibilities, so please keep that in mind if you do think of a pitch.
By the way, Tikkun is a Hebrew word meaning to repair/heal, and is often used in the phrase "tikkun olam" which means to heal/repair the world, and is used generally to refer to social justice/acts of kindness etc.
Another thing, I was thinking of was this: since many of us are writers, perhaps it might be helpful to many if those of us with connections to publications/blogs etc. could send them to the listserv with a bit of info. as to how to pitch etc.?

Thanks for your suggestions, Jana! Jarrah read them out at the social today.
Very excited about the other exciting ideas we have come up with, and the energy to make it all happen! It was also great just to talk in person about gender issues and the media.
Thanks for all those who made it, and for people who couldn't, don't worry! We are planning to have much more frequent meetups from now on.
I'll send out a detailed email after Christmas describing the action ideas discussed, explaining how we will re-envision how WAM! Vancouver will be run in the new year.

i had hoped to put an idea forward regarding possible 'rallying point days'
