We are looking for a student to fill the position of Community Outreach
Liaison for a 12 week term, starting May 16, 2012. Applicants must be able
to work up to 20 hours/week, during office hours. The wage rate is
$18.81/hour. *Please Note** This position is subject to funding by Human
Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC). If our application is
successful, the funding stipulates that students must be 15-30 years of age
and have been a full time student in the Spring term and returning as a
full time student in the Fall term. Unfortunately, international students

Salon 3: Why Does Craft Matter – Creation & Revision*

A salon series that explores voice, reading and craft in poetry rooted
within / emerging out of grassroots communities and communities of
struggle. We welcome all lovers and practitioners of poetry, but especially
encourage participation by Indigenous poets and poets of colour. To

Featured Poets:
*Rita Wong* is the author of three books of poetry: sybil unrest
(co-written with Larissa Lai, Line Books, 2008), forage (Nightwood 2007,
winner of Canada Reads Poetry 2011), and monkeypuzzle (Press Gang 1998).
Wong received the Asian Canadian Writers Workshop Emerging Writer Award in
1997, and the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize in 2008. Building from her
doctoral dissertation which examined labour in Asian North American
literature, her work investigates the relationships between contemporary
poetics, social justice, ecology, and decolonization.
*Hari Alluri* is a poet, community facilitator, filmmaker and VONA alumni
who immigrated to South Vancouver, Coast Salish Territories at the age of
12 and believes in craft and movement. Hari Alluri is honoured to work with
Rita Wong as part of SFPIRG's Poetry for the People Redux. His recent
collaborations are with Asian Arts Freedom School, los migrantes, the
National Film Board of Canada, no one is illegal, press release poetry
collective, The Purple Thistle, RAIN Zine and the VONAfied magic room. If
interested, you can find his writing in several publications or ask about
the chapbook one armed archery, written with the Collaborative Manifesto
Remix Project.
Featured Performer: *Mohamed Assani* is a musician who is both deeply
rooted in the artistic traditions of South Asia and a one-of-a-kind
innovator. He will be presented a performance of Indian Classical music on
