Organising *Beyond* Barriers!

Local 40 organises thousands of hotel and food service workers across Metro
Vancouver, and is part of a larger movement of workers across the continent
who are confronting corporate greed and routine mistreatment of workers,
fighting to raise the standards of service sector jobs, and winning dignity
and respect on the job through solidarity and action.

The Organising Beyond Barriers Internship program will provide you with the
opportunity to build on and expand your organising skills by learning how
to do bottom up worker organising, to win campaigns in the short term and
develop worker leaders in the long term. Some of these skill will be
learned through house visits, one-on-one organising and door-to-door
community outreach. You will also get to know more about labour struggles
in your community, and actively participate in campaigns for work issues,
respect from bosses and economic justice. By working side by side with
experienced labour organisers, rank-and-filers, and other interns as you
will gain knowledge and hands-on practice that will empower you to
participate in the broader struggle for social change.

Applicants must have full availability from June 25th to August 17th, which
is the length of the program. Each intern will be allotted a $450/week
stipend. Applicants will be chosen based on what unique skills, knowledge
and experience they can bring to the program. Groups who face systemic
barriers are encouraged to apply.
