Thanks everyone for the great advice and resources! Hope you won't mind me
sending out private emails with follow-up questions.
If people come across other resources this week, please keep sending them
along! And if you have suggestions on media makers/activists I could
interview, please let me know, too!
Right now, I'm especially looking to talk to: self-identified women of
colour media makers/activists, Indigenous activists/media makers, survivors
of sexual assault and allies who resist against rape culture by creating
their own media, and women with disabilities who raise awareness about how
women with disabilities face disproportionate levels of violence.
I'll send out the blog posts starting Sunday, and feel free to reblog them
anywhere and to provide critical feedback.

>> Dear all,
>>>
>>> Next week, from April 15-21, I will be guest-blogging for Battered
>>> Women's Support Service <http://www.bwss.org/>s during Prevention of
>>> Violence Against Women week. My goal is to provide a wealth of information
>>> and inspiration about how to harness the power of the media to end violence
>>> against women and girls, and to spread awareness about how rape culture is
>>> perpetuated in the media.
>>>
>>> The name of the campaign is "How Does She Resist?: Resisting Media
>>> Representations to End Violence Against Girls and Women" (Promotional
>>> poster attached)
>>>
>>> Blog topics will include how to identify and resist against oppressive
>>> media representations of Indigenous women, women of color, women with
>>> disabilities, survivors of domestic and sexual violence...and women and
>>> girls in general.
>>>
>>> Last year, the BWSS' anti-violence blog campaign reached tens of
>>> thousands of new readers, so I want to do my best to take advantage of this
>>> opportunity. The resources I discuss need to be as accessible as
>>> possible in order to reach readers who may not identify as feminist or who
>>> may not have experience creating media or doing media analysis.
>>>
>>> The problem is that I am struggling to find simple, accessible
>>> information on terms like "rape culture" and "anti-oppression," and
>>> progressive-minded resources/tutorials on writing op-eds, blogging, making
>>> zines, starting petitions, writing letters to the editor, etc.
>>>
>>> If WAMmers can please send me links to your favorite resources and
>>> teaching materials, I would really appreciate it!
>>>
>>> I am also looking to quote a variety of media makers and media activists
>>> in my blog posts, so if you would like to share your personalized insights
>>> and tips with me, that would be great! We could talk over email or on the
>>> phone.
>>>
>>> And lastly, the BWSS would welcome any cross-postings or linking to the
>>> blog posts to help us reach a wider audience. I'll send out my blog
>>> posts to the WAM! Vancouver list next week, so please feel free to
>>> redistribute them in full, with credit and a link back to BWSS blog<http://www.bwss.org/>
>>> .
