PUBLIC MEETING

Indian people are under oppression in India under various conditions in
different parts of the country. But at the heart of this oppression lies
the new economic reality which is manifesting itself through various
conflicts in Indian society. Initially globalization led to Special
Economic Zones where workers rights and environment suffered. Now it has
turned into a land grabbing enterprise throughout the country.
Multinationalists are being enabled by the law and corrupt bureaucracy to
push farmers off their farms. Aboriginals are being pushed off from their
land to make way for the mining corporations. Particularly, suppression
is severe in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odessa, Andhra Pradesh, and West
Bengal. Here, conflict has become a military operation which is
threatening the lives of a large number of people.
