*Is TV News Salvageable?*

Thursday Sept 22 - 7-9pm
149 West Hastings (community theatre at SFU Woodwards).

Presented by the SFU Woodward's Cultural Unit and Vancity Office of
Community Engagement

Kai Nagata is a journalist currently based in British Columbia. He is also
developing two documentaries for free online distribution.

Until July 2011, Kai was CTV's Quebec City Bureau Chief, reporting mostly on
politics before quitting his job. He detailed his reasons for resigning in
an open letter titled "Why I Quit My Job". The blog post went viral and
sparked a wide variety of reaction and discussion regarding TV news
journalism in Canada and beyond:

Kai Nagata's talk will be followed by responses from a panel of guests
including David Beers from the Tyee, journalist Kathryn Gretsinger from UBC
Graduate School of Journalism, SFU Communications professor Dr. Bob Hackett
and former BCIT Journalism instructor George Orr. The evening will be
moderated by journalist and author Deborah Campbell.
