CKUT, the McGill university radio station in Montreal has launched a very
cool project combining radio and radio storytelling with issues regarding
gender and violence, as addressed by women and girls of various backgrounds
and abilities.

The Blue Print Project


>From October 11th to April 17th, Radio CKUT and the 2110 Centre for Gender
Advocacy are inviting young women and girls from all communities,
backgrounds and of all abilities to take part in a collective, creative
radio project. Twelve workshops on gender based violence at the 2110 Centre
for Gender Advocacy and twelve workshops on making radio at CKUT. No
experience needed. Registration is free.

*Sexual Assault Awareness (with the Sexual Assault Centre of the McGill
Students’ Society – SACOMSS)*
*October 11th from 6-8 PM*
This workshop is designed to provide a basic understanding of sexual
assault, including consent and personal boundaries, We will explore the
right of people to define their own experiences. We will delve into why
consent can be complicated, the importance of communicating comfort levels,
and what resources are available within Montreal for survivors.

*Gender and Gentrification (with Movement for Justice in El Barrio) *
*October 25th from 6-8 PM*
Representatives of the Movement for Justice in El Barrio, an immigrant-led
organization from New York will discuss their struggle for equitable
housing. For this group, the struggle for justice means fighting for the
liberation of women, immigrants, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.

*Our Bodies, Our Choice: Reproductive Justice and Systemic Violence (with la
Fédération du Québec pour le planning des naissances)*
*November 8th from 6-8 PM*
This workshop will highlight both the historic and current state of abortion
access in Quebec and Canada. We will discuss barriers to access as well as
current attacks on abortion rights and their impact on reproductive freedom.

*Women in Conflict with the Law (with the Elizabeth Fry Society)*
*November 22nd from 6-8 PM*
Kim Pate, the Executive Director of the Canadian Association of Elizabeth
Fry Societies and Dee LeCompte, the programmer of Prison Radio on Radio
CKUT will discuss the right of access to equal opportunities and programs
for women in the justice system. They will also discuss the right to justice
without fear of systemic prejudice or discrimination on the basis of such
factors as sex, race, disability, sexual orientation, age, religion and
freedom of conscience, social or economic condition.

*Sex Work and Gendered Violence (with Stella)*
*December 6th from 6-8 PM*
A member of Montréal sex-workers rights organization Stella will present on
systemic violence and discrimination and the effects of laws and policing on
sex workers in Montréal.

*Gender and Climate Change *
*January 24th from 6-8 PM*
This discussion will explore the ways in which environmental destruction
deepens existing gender inequalities, and the ways in which existing gender
inequalities allow environmental destruction to
occur, with a particular
emphasis on women, and on environmental racism.

*Systemic Violence against Native Women in Canada*
*February 7th from 6-8 PM*
Solidarity 101: This teach-in will delve into the role of the media, police
and justice systems in perpetuating violence against Native Women. We will
also be discussing the role allies can play.

*Gendered Violence and Trans’ communities  *
*March 6th from 6-8 PM*
This workshop will challenge your understanding of gender and shed light on
some of the struggles faced by Trans’ people.  We will discuss gender
identities and expressions, terms, definitions as well as the role of allies
in creating a safer, more inclusive environment for all.

*Gender Inclusive Cities  – A Walking Tour and Safety Audit (with
Women in
Cities) *
*March 20th from 6-8 PM*
Where do we feel safe/unsafe and why? Join us for a tour of the city and
embark upon a participatory safety audit (bring your cameras, notepads etc!)
This workshop is aimed at promoting gender inclusive access to public
spaces.

*Teen Dating and Violence (with the South Asian Women’s Community
 Centre)
*
*April 3rd from 6-8 PM*
An interactive workshop on teen dating and violence,  including an
overview
of what violence means, and examples of violence within
teenage couples. The
discussion will delve into cultural contexts,
including that of young south
Asian couples.  The presentation will
incorporate storytelling, and group
work and will touch upon the role
of technology in transforming how we
interact with each other and how
we define a relationship.

*Find Your Talk,  Raise Your Voice Art and Activism (with Ravensara) *
*April 17th from 6-8 PM*
This workshop mixes protest and rebellion with the beauty of expression.
Giving prompts relating to themes such as social justice and gender,
participants will be invited to explore their unique voice through song and
spoken word.
