Subject: SFPIRG Eviction Update - We Need Your Support!
To: outreach <outreach at sfpirg.ca>

************ Please post and forward widely *****************

Dear SFPIRG Supporters,

Thanks very much for your support of the organization over the past months
and years. As you may know, the SFSS is currently proposing terminating our
lease and evicting the organization from its space - TC 326 in the Rotunda.
SFPIRG has been here for the past 30 years! Since their original motion to
terminate our lease in July, the SFSS Space and Oversight Committee has
acknowledged that they are obliged to conduct a consultation with all
affected parties before they make a decision on this issue. We are currently
negotiating with them about what a fair consultation looks like and also,
talking about alternative ways we can address space issues. Attached is the
full background to the situation and the two proposals we have sent to the
SFSS Space and Oversight Committee, that we are currently waiting for a
decision on. We need your support and input in this conversation please!
You can support us in any of the following ways:

*1) Email the SFSS and let them know your concerns and/or your thoughts
about our proposals. You can find all the board members’ emails at
www.sfss.ca/contact.html. Please copy us in at info at sfpirg.ca.* We
encourage people to be firm, but there is no need to be rude.

*2.) Send your email to the Peak: opinions at the-peak.ca.*

*3.) Call the SFSS to voice your concern: **778.782.3870.*

*4.) Tweet your support or comment on our Facebook fan page:
www.facebook.com/sfpirg.*

*5.) Attend the **SFSS AGM** on **October 26th** at **2:30pm **in the **MBC
Atrium Cafeteria** and voice your concerns. If you want to propose a motion
at the AGM, contact the SFSS staff and/or board members to guide you through
this process.*

*6.) Talk to other students and let them know about the situation.*

* *

*7.) Drop by the SFPIRG office and talk to us for more information. We are
open Monday to Friday, 10:30am to 4:30pm.*

Many thanks for all your help! It's vital!

In solidarity,

SFPIRG Board & Staff.

ps.....
anti oppression workshop at the De-colonize/octipie vancouver space today!

Here we go folks!

The revolution will only get so far without anti oppression. Matter of fact
- that is not that far at all!

It is a foundational document to help us all understand the complex societal
system we currently live in. Eurocentric, white, heterosexist, patriarchy,
capitalist industrialized nations. (just a snapshot)

"De-colonize Vancouver!"

The anti oppression space currently exists within an illegal occupation of
indigenous territory.

Also known as Vancouver and the colony of England/Uk - known as Canada. We
stand in solidarity with the indigenous peoples of this region. Vancouver
is:

I believe that not only the main organizers (& they will exist) , but the
whole of the occupation of the occupation (this is already an occupation of
indigenous territory) needs to unlearn, and learn this.

See:

These are "the basics" of anti oppression principals/policy.

They can and should go much deeper and be more dynamic to suit our specific
needs.

Are you really working for the revolution?

Do you actually believe if we actually change the financial world then
everything will "be ok"?

Watch this video: (pay particular attention at the 1:30 mark and especially
the final speaker)

We need a team of facilitators.

We need people to step up and speak about anti oppression in all we do as a
movement/revolution!

Email list is up and running.

Workshops this week. (Oct11-15)

Stay tuned!

*update*

Oct.16/2011-2pm

Safer space - Anti Oppression workshop is the tent right behind the bus stop
shelter just before the corner of Howe & Georgia. 2 Tents - one with 2
rainbow flags on them. Fairly large tents. We will be holding anti
oppression workshops as soon as possible. Part of the space is for womyn
identified and another space (tent) for feminists/LGBT2IQ and more as we
work out the safer space mission.

WE will be making signs for the tents and our area today.
