Roots to Grow: The Need for Radical Spaces in Movement-Building
November 24, 7pm
Rhizome Cafe, 317 East Broadway, Vancouver. Coast Salish Territories
What is the role of physical spaces–like Rhizome–in supporting social
movements? What can we learn from other radical spaces, both those
that came before us and others that are currently in existence?
As part of Rhizome's fifth anniversary celebration, join us for a
panel discussion to explore these questions. Panelists from a variety
of spaces will share their experiences and lead us in a discussion
that will help position Rhizome as part of a network of radical
spaces, and as part of a legacy and tradition of resistance.
Speakers will share their experiences as organizers working out of La
Quena, the Kalayaan Centre, the Carnegie Centre, Occupy Vancouver,
Spartacus Books, and the Organizing Centre for Social and Economic
Justice. The panel will be moderated by members of the Coordinating
Collective of the Rhizome Movement-Building Centre.
By donation; you can become a Friend of Rhizome at this event, and
help ensure that this space is able to continue well into the future!
This is a child inclusive event and childcare will also be available on-site

Rhizome is a community-based cafe and social space dedicated to
supporting social justice struggles, serving as a forum for dialogue
and mutual learning, and elevating "marginalized" voices, especially
to facilitate connections between and among diverse grassroots
communities.
The Rhizome Movement Building Centre
The Rhizome Movement-Building Centre (RMBC) is a new initiative out of
Rhizome Cafe. The RMBC will be a hub for numerous local groups,
providing skills training and shared resources to increase the
capacity of grassroots groups to organize powerful campaigns, form
lasting alliances, and build a strong movement for social and
environmental justice.
