Hi Amanda,
Sounds like such a great event! Unfortunately I'm not able to afford a ticket- I agree with some of the other WAMers, $75 is a tad bit pricey. But I'll let people know about it! Also, if there's any way I can volunteer my time and help out with the fundraiser, then I'd love to, so please let me know :)
Cheers,
Dharra

Subject: [Wamvan] Four Women's Groups Need Help!
Hi WAMers!
On Friday, May 27th at the Yaletown Roundhouse, I’m
coordinating an evening called It’s in the Bag: A Purse Auction Event
in
conjunction with three other local Vancouver women’s organizations
(Soroptimist International of Vancouver, Wish Drop in Centre, and
A.W.A.R.E) and we’re
currently having a difficult time selling tickets.
We're small groups doing great work...
Amongst
the four of us, we provide leadership training to girls and young women,
scholarships for single mothers, affordable housing for senior women,
encouragement to girls to use the arts as a vehicle for social change, and a
drop in centre for women in survival sex work. And that’s just a sampling of
our work!
But our work has been making a difference and getting
recognized! In fact, two of these organizations’ founders have been named Young
Women of Distinction by the YWCA (Saara Banji of A.W.A.R.E. and myself). One
organization received a Vancity $1 million Award. Another organization just
celebrated its 85th birthday by handing out scholarships to young
women leaders. Just this week, I was mentioned in the Vancouver Sun for an
award that I’m receiving from The Minerva Foundation.
Together, we show that its not the size of our budgets that
matter but it’s the passion that we have for the work that we do. But, as I’m
sure you’ll agree, the size of your budget does matter! Each of our
organizations has wonderful and ambitious plans about what we want to do to
help and support women and we need to raise money to make those dreams a
reality.
We're organizing It's in the Bag to make our dreams reality...
We
want to provide a fun way for women in Vancouver to have a Girl’s Night
Out and support us! But It’s in the Bag is a first time event and
sometimes its hard to convince people to attend something new. As I’m
sure you
know, there are a number of different events for a number of different
causes.
So, you might be asking, what makes our event so unique or worth anyone’s time or
money?
Well, first of all it will be a great evening!
Picture being
greeted at the door with a delicious Hagensborg Truffle Pig only to enter into
a beautifully decorated Roundhouse Centre. A talented musician will be playing
in the background as you make your way past the tables upon tables of purses on
auction towards the bar.
Perhaps on your way there you will run into one of the
models wearing the fashions of Vancouver designer Malene Grotrian and showcasing
one of our Live Auction handbags by brands like Coach, Sienna Ray and Dorothy
Grant or one of the purses donated by a celebrity. At the bar, you will get a
fun drink and from there maybe find a friend to go see Vancouver photographer
Doug Batchelor where you’ll have your own personal photoshoot and get your
picture printed on the spot.
By that time, you will want to take a seat so that you can
enjoy the delicious food catered by a famous Yaletown eatery before making a
trip to the Dessert Buffet where you will sample the delectable red velvet and
vanilla cupcakes and admire the beautifully sculped Red Purse cake by Berliosca
Cakes! While you’re eating your dessert, MC Valerie Casselton, the Executive
Editor of the Vancouver Sun will then take the stage to help auction off the
best handbags live!
Sound like fun? I think so too! I can’t wait for the event,
but I want to make sure that it’s a success and I need your help. Can you
please help me out by:
Buying a ticket or two (or even a table!) and
inviting your friends to come (www.itsinthebag.ca). If you can’t come, sending your friends and
colleagues e-mails encouraging them to come out. And posting on Facebook or
other sites about it. And doing everything and anything you can do to help us
sell tickets. Also, if you can’t come, would you consider making
a donation to the event at our website www.itsinthebag.ca.
We appreciate anything you can do...
Anything that you can do would be very helpful and very much
appreciated. Because we’re all relatively small organizations even a little bit
means a lot to us! We will use your help and support to expand our service and
engage in exciting new projects like The Antigone Foundation’s forthcoming National Leadership Tour, for example!
If you have any questions or would like to chat, please feel
free to give me a call at 604-324-0043. Please also, check out our website www.itsinthebag.ca. Thank you in advance for your help. It
means so very much.
Sincerely,
