Subject: [p-i-e] Please support and for your information

Hi Everyone,

You may have heard about this already -- Rumana Monzur is a graduate student
at UBC; she is a professor at Dhaka University Bangladesh, here on a
scholarship, doing her MA in Political Science. She was staying at St John's
College. I did not know her personally but I know of her through many
students at UBC who found her to be a wonderful warm and caring person. She
went home to see her daughter and husband. She was brutally attacked by her
husband AND IS NOW BLIND. He tried to gouge out her eyes and has permanently
damaged both her eyes.

I am emailing you to ask for your support -- If you could attend the event
below, that would be great. Otherwise, please support the cause, distribute
to like minded people who can support Rumana. You can also contribute,
details given below:

Thank you for your attention,
ALMAS

Please join us on Sunday if you know Rumana, and even if you don't, join to

*HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE:*

We’ve now received some additional details from the UBC VP Students Office
regarding the collection of funds to assist Rumana. If you wish to
contribute to this fund, you can submit cheques or cash to either:

1. The Office of the VP Students, Old Administration Building, Room 123,
6328 Memorial Road (just north of Koerner Library), or
2. St. John’s College UBC, Main Office, 2111 Lower Mall.

Cheques should be made out to “The University of British Columbia”.

The VP Students Office will deposit the funds and wire a cheque to Rumana’s
family in about 10 days. Accordingly, any donations should be made no later
than 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 27.

AT this point in time, on-line donations are not possible. If that changes,
we will let you know.
