Hi Frieda and all,
Thanks for sending the article. Kalamity and Meenakshi, two WAM Vancouver
organizers, presented workshops at last month's "The F Word Conference" that
raised questions about the usefulness of feminism in academia. If you're
interested in covering this topic on your radio show, they're good contacts.
I love Google Alerts. It's a great tool for journalists to think of article
ideas on certain topics. It's easy to set up here:
http://www.google.com/alerts
As for Helium, I looked into it when I was younger, and it's a site where
writers can generate content on whatever they'd like (as opposed to content
farms like Demand Media where writers have to choose from a SEO-driven list
of "how to" articles). It is very difficult for writers to make money on
Helium, but if their articles become very popular, they get paid a bit.
Speaking of writing for free, I'm going to start blogging for WIMN (Women in
Media and News <http://www.wimnonline.org/WIMNsVoicesBlog/>), an
organization that has quite similar goals as WAM, about representation or
race/racism and women of colour in the media.
Please keep sending out interesting links to the wamvan listserv! It's been
very helpful in helping me generate article ideas. I just wish I had better
time management and productivity to keep up with all my ideas!
Thanks everyone,
Joanna
