As PAN navigates the third year of the pandemic, we have had the
opportunity to examine how we do our work and what that might look like in
future. At PAN, we recognize that our work does not exist in a vacuum –
rather, in line with our commitment to social change and equity, we see our
organization as a ‘global being’. Learn more

As people who use drugs (PWUD), we denounce the unfounded critiques of
safer supply by addiction medicine physicians like Vincent Lam, medical
director of Coderix Medical Clinic in Toronto. We are the ones navigating
the illicit drug supply daily. We are the experts. Arguments against safer
supply are consistently inaccurate, pro-profit and rooted in fear and
hate-based ideology. Both medicalized and non-medicalized models of safer
supply are part of the continuum of harm reduction.

Research tells us that queer and trans people are more likely to suffer
abuse and neglect by those they should be able to trust (because of shared
increased risk factors, mistrust of the healthcare system, and failure of
many institutions and organizations to pay attention to marginalized
populations). Though we’ve known for years that this was an issue, and
there’ve been several calls to action, very little has been done. This
study wants to change that. Learn more

(Re)conciliation

A core approach of PAN’s work is our commitment to ongoing learning, and we
centre this section in that commitment to see and challenge the harms in
ongoing colonialism. We recognize that the word reconciliation can be
problematic, because it implies there was a good relationship between
Indigenous and non-Indigenous people at some point in time, which isn’t the
case. After much discussion, we choose it because it's a recognizable term,
and hope that it connects people to the important work that needs to be
done.

While after years of hard work I generally have a healthy (albeit complex)

Every month or two, the government says it’s moving as quickly as it can to

A woman in New York City has no detectable HIV 14 months after stopping
antiretroviral therapy following a transplant of HIV-resistant stem cells,
as reported at the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections
(CROI 2022). The woman, who received the stem cell transplant to treat
leukaemia, is doing well, and both her cancer and HIV are in remission.
While it is too soon to declare for certain that she is cured of HIV,
experts are hopeful that the 'New York patient' will join the 'Berlin
patient' and the 'London patient' as the third person to be free of HIV
over the long term after stem cell transplantation.
