WORLD AIDS DAY

Highlighting these events happening on Wednesday December 1 - World AIDS Day

*Women’s Resilience : The Power of Peers*Wednesday December 1st 2021 @ noon

This online event focuses on women’s healthcare. Everyone is welcome to
this event which features the voices of women living with chronic illness
who face stigma and other hurdles.

Stigma is experienced in many healthcare settings and can be exacerbated in
rural communities where there is less anonymity. Despite these barriers,
many women manage to dance, sing and wiggle their way through decades of
living with HIV and other chronic illnesses.

After sharing the community-lead peer model of the *Southern Gulf Islands
AIDS Society*, we will explore how peer navigation enhances women’s ability
to manage their health while supporting others.

*Sex in a Pandemic 2.0*
Calling Gay, Bi, Queer, and Trans Men Back into Community

Wednesday December 1st 2021 @ 7 pm

As island community members, we invite you to explore connection and
intimacy in the context of our intergenerational gay, bi, queer, and trans
male experiences.

This event builds on the infamous 1983 pamphlet, How to have Sex in an
Epidemic, which was ahead of its time as a community-based health resource.

What is our present relationship with our community? Have we lost the
cohesiveness of past movements? And how, by addressing community health and
wellness needs today, can we rebuild and reconnect?

*Stamina Not Stigma*
Understanding and Optimizing the Role of Rural Peer Navigation Health
Models in a Pandemic

Drawing on experiences of a diverse group of islanders who supported each
other through the worst days of the AIDS pandemic and evolved with the
changing realities of living with HIV, the premise of Stamina Not Stigma is
to affirm wellness strategies, spotlight the role of peers as community
health navigators & educators, and show how these approaches can empower
and improve health outcomes for folk facing various health and well-being
challenges.
