Thank you for asking Margarite,
I can speak from the perspective of a participant. The Women’s Wellness Day went well, with 10 presentations from women and two wonderful motivational sessions as well as shared discussion opportunity at round tables in the afternoon. The day was full for me as I had to return to get to a medical appointment the following morning. I did not bring up the future of VIVA but see that women’s gatherings are so powerful. There is something amazing that happens when we sit at a table of women who have lived experience with HIV. And we can share online but it is soooo much easier face to face. Isolation is a huge health issue.
Thank you to Shelley and other organizers who made this happen, in spite of funding cuts and in spite of C-19. Praise and gratitude.
What shone for me is the number of indiginous and immigrant leaders. I recall 2006 and the international AIDS Conference where Canadian woman demanded more focus on women. Now we are seeing the groups that were poorly represented at that time being strong. It makes me happy.
I think there is still a huge struggle for trans women, but have not heard from enough people to know if the situation is better than it was or needs more support from sisters living with HIV. It seems like HIV has become a smaller issue for many of us. Is this not true for you?
I have a visual recording that I did that day that I am happy to share. I should likely get the organizers permission before doing that. So if it is possible I will followup.
Love to you all. Stay strong. Find the magic place within yourself and let it shine. Hugs to all.Looking forward to hearing from others.-peg
