In Action Monthly Update
Regional Updates from Canada and the United States
Welcome to the ICW-NA Monthly Newsletter
ICW-NA is proud to relaunch our newsletter. We see this exact time as an
essential time for us to share information for us, as women living with HIV
and our partners to keep connected. We spent the majority of 2019
restructuring our governance and programs. All of our hard work has enabled
us to get moving with a year of programming including campaign launches,
webinars and amplified communications in the hopes of building bridges
between members and our partners. All ICW-NA members will be automatically
registered to receive our regular newsletter updates. If you know anyone
who would like to become a member or partner organization please have

ICW-NA Strategic Plan Focus Groups and Survey
ICW-NA were busy all March and April conducting focus groups with
membership about what matter’s most to women living with HIV for our 2020 -
2023 strategic plan. In total, ICW-NA has so far hosted 5 focus groups,
including one with transgender women. ICW will be hosting 2 more focus
groups with young and Indigenous women living with HIV. In addition, we
launched an online survey

to increase our reach (see below how you can participate and have a chance

the diverse input from the hundreds of women living with HIV in Canada and
the United States that we have received so far. We hope to hear more of
your voices because your opinion matters. ICW-NA will keep you posted on
the upcoming launch this July during AIDS 2020.
Our Beloved Deloris Dockrey
ICW-NA would like to acknowledge the passing of one of our founders and
community champions Deloris Dockrey from complications with COVID-19. She
was instrumental in supporting ICW at both the regional and global levels
as the North American representative on the International Steering
Committee from 2012 - 2016 and The chair of the ICW-NA board from 2014 -
2016. Anyone who knew her, knew she was a magical person. Her impact in the

I AM ICW + Where Do You Fit In? Campaign Launches
ICW-NA has been working behind the scenes on a number of campaigns that are
rooted in the celebration of the history of the women and HIV movement and
our diversity of a network. On April 30th, ICW-NA hosted an event that was
dedicated to Deloris Dockrey to launch both campaigns. Over 40 people
joined us including some of the original founders of ICW and global
contacts from North America.
"The event was magical and awe inspiring. Thank you to the women that came
before us." said one participant.

builds on this idea and celebrates both our diversity and sameness giving
ICW-NA members the ability to define the space that they would like to "fit
in".
For both campaigns ICW-NA will be collaborating with partners to fill gaps
and implement programs throughout 2020. We see these campaigns as ones of
movement building and removing the harmful walls and silos in our movements.
Fear, My Companion and Motivator By Deloris Dockrey
Fear is my constant companion,
Fear is my motivator.
Fear was there when I was molested as a child,
Fear was there in my guilt and shame,
Fear motivated me to say STOP!
Fear was there when I had my son,
Fear was there when I knew I was alone,
Fear motivated me to keep HIM.
Fear was there when I journeyed to a new country,
Fear was there as I ran away from guilt and shame,
Fear motivated me to succeed and ACHIEVE.
Fear was there when I became HIV positive,
Fear was there in my guilt and shame,
Fear motivated me to survive and LIVE!
Fear was there when I was rejected and unloved,
Fear was there in my guilt and shame,
Fear motivated me to find a new PATH.
Fear was there as I lie in a coma,
Fear was there in my regret and guilt,
Fear motivated me to go on LIVING!
Fear I have grown to respect you,
My guilt and shame is gone,
Fear remains, but fear motivates me to a LIFE
A life well lived, a life of PEACE.

ICW-NA Speaks Out
How are you coping in the time of COVID-19?
Every month we ask our members a question about issues that matter to them
and here’s what they had to say! This month we asked our members about how
they are coping in the time of COVID-19. Here's what some of them had to
say.
“We have had a number of tragic deaths in our community. People cannot
access housing. So we are holding ceremony everyday to give power to them."
- Vancouver
"I'm cleaning, painting, mending and repairing in order to occupy myself.
This practice of REPAIR is really important to me these days. It seems to
me that we need to do a lot of repairing in all aspects of how we live. The
way we were living pre-COVID has been shown to be unsustainable." - Toronto
"Weekly I help people who are homeless and in need of help, by giving food
and necessary supplies. Its the least I can do to give back to a community
I was apart of when things were hard for me." - Florida
"By allowing health interruptions, my tears, prayers and scriptures,
Facetime, texting, making creative art and helping others." - New York
"I am trying to hold tight to the people close to me. I don't always see
them or feel them but I know that they are with me." - Montreal
