Dear Ms. Sanchez,
My name is Greg Harris and I am a Professor in the Faculty of Education at
Memorial University of Newfoundland working with a national committee which
includes people living with HIV and representatives of AIDS Service
Organizations (ASOs). I am writing in collaboration with Dr. Alan Li, an
HIV primary care physician at the Regent Park Community Health Centre and
Research Chair at the Committee for Accessible AIDS Treatment, as well as
the co-chairs of our research team, James Watson and Andre Ceranto. James
is the Coordinator of Community-Based Research and Peer Initiatives at the
Centre for Urban Health Solutions at St. Michael’s Hospital and producer of
the University Without Walls’ pozcast
<http://www.universitieswithoutwalls.ca/category/pozcast/>. Andre is the
Peer Program Manager at Casey House, Canada’s first and only stand-alone
hospital for people with HIV/AIDS.
We are conducting a community-based research project called *Project PEER
(People living with HIV Engaged in Employment Roles): Uncovering the Impact
of GIPA/MEPA and the Wise Practices of Informal and Formal Supports*. The
purpose of the study is to better understand existing formal and informal
support systems for PEERs.We are contacting you to request your assistance
in helping us to reach people living with HIV working in your organization
as potential participants for this project.
We are hoping you will consider asking your administrative assistant to
forward the invitation below to all employees of your organization. This
includes those in full-time, part-time and honorarium-based work. We are
asking that your administrative assistant do this so as to help ensure no
employees at your ASO feel any undue pressure to complete the survey. We
are also asking that this invitation be sent to all employees so as to
reduce any risk of being able to identify which employee(s) actually
completed the survey. Please note that a separate email will be sent to you
shortly inviting you to participate as Executive Director. The deadline for
responding to the surveys is *November 11, 2019*
Thank you for considering this request. If you have any questions about
this, please feel free to let me know.
On behalf of the Research Team*,*

Dear Community Member,
My name is Greg Harris and I am a Professor in the Faculty of Education at
Memorial University of Newfoundland working with a national committee which
includes people living with HIV and representatives of AIDS Service
Organizations (ASOs). I am writing in collaboration with Dr. Alan Li, an
HIV primary care physician at the Regent Park Community Health Centre and
Research Chair at the Committee for Accessible AIDS Treatment, as well as
the co-chairs of our research team, James Watson and Andre Ceranto. James
is the Coordinator of Community-Based Research and Peer Initiatives at the
Centre for Urban Health Solutions at St. Michael’s Hospital and as host and
producer of the University Without Walls’ pozcast
<http://www.universitieswithoutwalls.ca/category/pozcast/>. Andre is the
Peer Program Manager at Casey House, Canada’s first and only stand-alone
hospital for people with HIV/AIDS.
We are conducting a community-based research project called *Project PEER:
Uncovering the Impact of GIPA/MEPA and the Wise Practices of Informal and
Formal Supports*. The purpose of the study is to investigate existing
formal and informal support systems for PEERs. We use the term “PEERs to
refer to “*P*eople living with HIV *E*ngaged in *E*mployment *R*oles” in
the HIV sector.
We are contacting you to invite you to participate in an online survey in
which you will be asked to identify your role in the organization, as well
as identify the incorporation of GIPA/MEPA principles, engagement of people
living with HIV, and services/support available at your organization.
Participation will require approximately 20-30 minutes of your time.
Importantly, we have asked the executive director of your organization to
have their administrative assistant send this e-mail request to all
employees of your organization. We have done this in order to help ensure
you do not feel any undue pressure to participate and also to help ensure
that it is unclear who actually chooses to participate in this study so as
to help ensure your anonymity. We further recommend that if you choose to
participate in this project that you complete the survey on your personal
computer in order to protect your privacy. Participation in this study is
completely voluntary and not a requirement of your agency.
To participate in this survey, you must be a person living with HIV
currently engaged in an employment role in a Canadian HIV/AIDS Service
Organization and/or Allied Support Organization. For the purposes of this
study, we define *employment role* as any paid role within an organization
(e.g. administrative, management, service provision, research). This
includes full-time, part-time and honorarium-based work.
As a small token of appreciation, you can enter yourself into a draw where
you could win 1 of 10 $100 electronic gift cards. The winners will receive
their gift card via the e-mail address that they submit for the draw. You
will be given the opportunity to enter the draw on the exit page when you
end or submit the survey. If you choose to, you can create an e-mail
address through Google that contains no personally identifying information.
The survey is offered in both English and French, so participants must have
basic comprehension skills in either language to participate in the survey.
Participants must also be at least 19 years of age to participate.
Your information will be completely anonymous as everyone within your
organization is being asked to participate. There will be no way for us,
your employer, or anyone else within your organization to identify who has
chosen to participate or not. You can choose to withdraw from the study at
any point without penalty.
If you would like to participate, please click on the link below. This link
will take you to the informed consent form and then to the survey. Neither
your name nor your email address can be linked to your responses, and the
name of your organization will (if you choose to provide it) be collected
in a completely different survey so cannot be linked to your previous
responses.
