                     *HOUSE HAPPENINGS *

The theme of this year's World AIDS Day is "Communities make the
difference". The commemoration of World AIDS Day on Dec. 1 is an important
opportunity to recognize the essential role that communities have played
and continue to play in the AIDS response at the international, national
and local levels. Community support has been integral to the success of
Vancouver Friends for Life Society where, through the help of local
volunteers and sponsors, we continue to welcome people facing life
challenges associated with HIV, Cancer, and Hepatitis C.

*"Let's Kick Ass" coffee social at FFL on Friday, December 6, 2019*

Let's Kick ASS (Aids Survival Syndrome) is a movement established in 2013
by Tez Anderson, and is committed to empowering long-term survivors of HIV
and AIDS, and raising awareness for AIDS Survivor Syndrome. With the
improvement of the outlook for people living with HIV, issues like aging
are becoming more important for the community to address. The
campaign seeks to raise awareness about this increasingly important
topic. On Friday, December 6th from 3-5 p.m., we will have a coffee social
to introduce the group to the public. All are welcome.

*Event*: "Let's Kick Ass" coffee social at Friends for Life on Friday,
December 6, 2019
*Time*: 3 p.m. - 5 p.m.

*Ignite Your Light this Winter: **Expressive Arts Workshops*

Join us in an experiential journey of creative expression and
self-discovery in one or both of our December group workshops which will

from 2:30-4 p.m. There are 8 spots available for each workshop. Sign up at

Participants will have the opportunity to explore, play, and create
together with an assortment of arts materials and forms, in a nourishing
and encouraging environment. No art experience or skill necessary.

*What is Expressive Arts Therapy?*

Expressive Arts Therapy is a counselling practice that uses various art
modalities in a supportive setting to facilitate growth and healing. In
sessions, we support people to engage their senses and imagination through
the use of the arts – including visual arts, play, movement, sound,
writing, and storytelling – dependent on people’s interests and needs. We
focus on what is working in people’s lives, through a process of accessing
and expanding our innate abilities of self-awareness, healing and growth.

No particular background, skill or ability is needed to participate. The
process is not about analyzing the art or about making "good" art. All that
is needed is a willingness to experiment and explore.

*Friends for Life open on December 25!*

*Spotlight on Friends for Life Practitioners - Jean-Luc Bun*

Jean-Luc focused many years in the healthcare industry on remedial
bodyworks, having worked in a sports clinic and with a chiropractic centre.
Being a practitioner of yoga since his early teens, Jean-Luc brings his
unique experience working with injured people as well as its
challenges into his craft as a healthcare provider and into his practice of
yoga.

At Friends For Life, Jean-Luc teaches a gentle Yin-inspired Restorative
Yoga, which takes the student into a series of modified asana or pose,
supported by cushions, props and other aids, that have little or no
weight-bearing. This gives the body a safe, nurturing environment, to
gently unfold and ease its way back into optimal alignment. His style of
yoga works with each person's own ability and limitations, to encourage
healing and release of tension, trauma, and emotional blockages long held
within the body, while increasing flexibility, range of movement, and
strength.

Book a 60 minute session to start off 2020 with your own intention to
create more freedom for your body.

*Don't Forget...*

   - Friends for Life will be closed during the Holiday Season from
December 20, 3019 to January 6, 2020 *except for December 25 *where the
house will be open (see details above). FFL will reopen Tuesday, January 7,
   2020.

   - The Vancouver College of Massage Therapy (VCMT) will offer massages
until Thursday December 5th and resume sessions the second week of January
2020. Massages booked in December after the 5th will be canceled. Vancouver
Friends for Life will confirm the return date as son as VCMT confirms with
us. Thank you for your understanding.

*BOOKING POLICY*

In response to feedback and suggestions from client-members, and in an
effort to improve access to the practitioners, the following guidelines
have been put into place as of April 1, 2018.

Booking limits will now be enforced on a month-by-month basis. This will
make it easier for both client-members and staff to keep track of
appointment numbers. This change will also see an increase in overall
yearly booking limits to 72 per client-member.

1. You may book up to two sessions with any one practitioner per calendar
month, except when otherwise stated. (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday massage
therapy sessions are considered three different practitioners).

2. You may hold up to a total of six sessions for all practitioners per
calendar month, except when otherwise stated. In case of house recess, one
appointment will be deducted from your limit for every week of closure. For
instance, an August closure could last two weeks, meaning two appointments
would be deducted from your allotment. Client-members who refer new
client-members, volunteers or practitioners to the house, or who volunteer
themselves, are eligible for an increase in their monthly booking limit.
Contact info at vancouverfriendsforlife.ca for more information.

3. In case of a breach of booking limits, client-members will, in the first
instance, be informed through email and be asked to cancel the number of
appointments necessary to ensure equal distribution of appointments. Upon
further breaches, Friends for Life may cancel client-member appointments
and/or suspend them from booking any further appointments for a period.

4. When a client-member books an appointment, appointment emails are sent
to the client-member and to the practitioner. Client-members are expected
to confirm their upcoming appointments through a further confirmation by
email and text by BookedIn in the days before the appointment. If you do
not receive a confirmation email, please contact
info at vancouverfriendsforlife.ca.

5. Client-members are expected to show up for every appointment they have
booked and must also be at the house at least ten minutes prior to the
appointment. Late arrivals and no-shows are noted in BookedIn and a number
of late or no-show appointments may result in cancellation of future
bookings and/or suspension of booking privileges.

6. Client-members may sign up to be on the cancellation list for a
practitioner (Click here
<https://friendsforlife.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=21612d99d1f3008d07ea8f1fb&id=a598a2e0c9&e=7a68f439b0>).
Appointments made through the cancellation list do not count towards the
monthly appointment limit of 6.

7. Under no circumstances should sessions be transferred to another
client-member. If cancellation is unavoidable, client-members must send an
email to info at vancouverfriendsforlife.ca immediately. Under most
circumstances, a cancellation within a 24-hour period of your session will
be considered a ‘no show’. When you cancel, you may offer the name of
someone else who may be interested in filling your appointment.

8. When booking appointments, you accept these terms.

We thank you for your cooperation, as we work towards a fair and equitable
system for everyone.
