CAHR – CANFAR Excellence in Research Awards
  The Canadian Association for HIV Research (CAHR) and the Canadian
Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR) are pleased to announce the 2019
winners of the CAHR-CANFAR Excellence in Research Awards.  These awards are
bestowed annually to mid-career researchers who while at the prime of their
careers have achieved a track record of excellence and demonstrated a
commitment to improving the lives of those living with HIV or at risk.

The 2019 winners of the CAHR-CANFAR Excellence in Research Awards are:

   - Basic Sciences: Dr. Blake Ball (National Laboratory for HIV Immunology
   / National HIV & Retrovirology Laboratories / JC Wilt Infectious Disease
   Research Center / Public Health Agency of Canada)
   - Clinical Sciences: Dr. Kelly O’Brien (University of Toronto)
   - Epidemiology-Public Health: Dr. Sharmistha Mishra (St. Michael’s
   Hospital, University of Toronto)
   - Social Sciences: Dr. Trevor Hart (Ryerson University)
   - Community-Based Research: The 33 peer research associates of the
   Canadian HIV Women's Sexual and Reproductive Health Cohort Study (CHIWOS)

Awarded since 2017, the CAHR-CANFAR Excellence in Research Awards winners
are honoured each year at the opening ceremonies of the CAHR Conference.
This year’s ceremony will take place in Saskatoon on May 9th, 2019.  For

Mark Wainberg Fund
The Mark Wainberg Fund was established to assist Canadian basic science
researchers – working in the realm of HIV virology – to present their work
at accredited meetings (including the annual CAHR Conference).  The prizes

CAHR 2019 Conference
  Registration is still open for the 28th Annual Canadian Conference on
HIV/AIDS Research (CAHR 2019) which will be held May 9-12th, 2019 in
Saskatoon.  Co-chairing the Conference will be Dr. Alexandra King, Cameco
Chair in Indigenous Health (University of Saskatchewan) and Dr. Linda
Chelico, Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and
Immunology (University of Saskatchewan) and a co-lead of the Saskatchewan
HIV/AIDS Research Endeavor (SHARE).  For more details see:

CAHR 2019 Community Scholarships
  CAHR is pleased to announce once again this year that 100% of eligible
Community Registration Scholarship applications were funded for the Annual
Canadian Conference on HIV/AIDS Research.  Over 120 applications were
approved for Community Registration Scholarships in addition to nine
Community Travel Awards (which will support flight, accommodation and
registration) for individuals across Canada. CAHR extends its appreciation
to the HIV community members who comprised the Review Panel for their time
and dedication to this effort. These scholarships — worth nearly $100,000 —
were designed to give priority to those living with HIV and those that will
utilize the knowledge gained from attending the Conference. Thank you to
this year’s sponsors: REACH2.0, CANOC and Gilead for their contributions to
this effort.

2019 CAHR Annual General Meeting
  The 2019 CAHR Annual General Meeting

will take place at the CAHR Conference on Friday, May 10th at 6:30 pm.  All
Members are invited to: participate and meet the CAHR Board of Directors;
review the audited financial statements; conduct a general election of
Board positions (see the call for nominations

and review the activities of the past year and consider the plan for the
upcoming year.

2019 CAHR Cup Hockey Game
  The fourth annual CAHR Cup hockey game is set for Wednesday, May 8th at
10:00 p.m.  The game will be held at the ACT Arena (107-105th Street), a
short distance away from the Conference venue.  The CAHR Cup is an old
fashioned Canadian pick-up hockey game where the name of the game is fun
and all are invited regardless of ability!  Bring your skates, helmet and
gloves and you’ll be ready to go.  There will be no assigned goalies and
everyone will take their turn in net.  Please RSVP by emailing

Prix d’excellence en recherche ACRV – CANFAR
  L’Association de recherche sur le VIH (ACRV) et la Fondation canadienne
de recherche sur le SIDA (CANFAR) ont le plaisir d’annoncer les lauréats
2019 des Prix d’excellence en recherche ACRV-CANFAR. Ces prix sont accordés
annuellement à des chercheurs en milieu de carrière qui, même au début de
leur cheminement, ont eu un parcours d’excellence et ont manifesté leur
engagement à améliorer la vie des personnes vivant avec le VIH ou qui
risquent de le contracter.

Voici les lauréats 2019 des Prix d’excellence en recherche ACRV-CANFAR :

  Le Fonds Mark Wainberg a été créé à l’intention des chercheurs canadiens
en sciences fondamentales – travaillant dans le domaine de la virologie du

Congrès 2019 de l’ACRV

Bourses communautaires 2019 de l’ACRV
  L’ACRV a le plaisir d’annoncer encore une fois cette année que la
totalité des demandes de bourses d’inscription pour les membres de la
collectivité ont été subventionnées pour le Congrès annuel canadien de
recherche sur le VIH/sida. Plus de 120 demandes de bourses d’inscription
pour les membres de la collectivité ont été approuvées, en plus de neuf
bourses de voyage pour les membres de la collectivité soutien financier
pour le vol, l’hébergement et l’inscription) pour diverses personnes de
l’ensemble du Canada. L’ACRV adresse ses remerciements aux membres de la
collectivité du VIH qui composaient le comité d’examen, pour le temps et le
dévouement qu’ils ont consacrés à cet effort. Les bourses, d’une valeur de
près de 100 000 $, ont été conçues pour accorder la priorité à ceux vivant
avec le VIH et aux personnes qui utiliseront les connaissances acquises par
leur présence au Congrès. Nos remerciements aux commanditaires de cette
année : REACH2.0, CANOC et Gilead, pour leurs contributions à cet effort.

aura lieu dans le cadre du congrès de l’ACRV le vendredi 10 mai à 18 h 30.
Tous les membres sont invités à y participer et à rencontrer le conseil
d’administration de l’ACRV, à prendre connaissance des états financiers
vérifiés, prendre part à l’élection générale à divers postes
d’administrateurs (voir l’appel à candidatures

et passer en revue les activités de l’année terminée et prendre

Partie de hockey de la Coupe ACRV 2019
  La quatrième partie annuelle de hockey de la Coupe de l’ACRV aura lieu le
mercredi 8 mai à 22 h. Elle aura lieu au Palais des sports (aréna) ACT
(107, 105e rue), à peu de distance du lieu du Congrès. La Coupe de l’ACRV
est une partie classique de passes et d’échanges où il s’agit de s’amuser
et tous sont invités, peu importe leurs aptitudes! N’oubliez pas vos
patins, votre casque et vos gants (et le bâton, sans doute) et vous voilà
prêt! Il n’y aura pas de gardiens de buts attitrés et chacun, à tour de
rôle, occupera les filets. Veuillez répondre en nous envoyant un
