Sex is for enjoyment; once we realize that, we realize sex should not harm
anyone in the process. Heck, people have acquired diseases, like HIV, that
could have been prevented if both parties were open and honest about what
they want and would prefer. It is okay to pleasure ourselves as well, so
that we can teach our partners what we want and how we want it.

Unfortunately (or not), I acquired HIV from a partner who did not disclose
their infection, and I knew exactly who it was. It made for a very tough
start. In fact, the betrayal was far more devastating than the diagnosis. I
had been living with someone that knew they were HIV-positive and never
told me.

For
some, sex can just be sex; anyone can have sex with a random person.
However, that was not what I was looking for from a partner. I wanted my
sexual experience to have meaning, a connection. I wanted to have sex with
someone that I could fall in love with, an everlasting type of thing. I
wanted to let go and feel sexual without judgement. I wanted to be intimate
with someone and feel like a woman again.

I have always been chubby. I honestly can’t remember a day that my thighs
didn’t rub together. It didn’t help that growing up there was no positive
imagery of girls that looked like me on TV, in the magazines, or even in
books. You could hardly find dolls that had my skin tone and kinky-curly
hair, and Barbie never came in plus-size.

5. Dating As A Single Mother With Three Kids

Dating is not easy no matter which stage of life one may be; I don’t know
about you but in my experience, the older one gets the more difficult it
becomes. It may be because I have come to understand how precious time is,
and, therefore, I have no intentions of wasting my own or someone else’s.
Or maybe it is because of the fact that I have a long list of deal
breakers, or better yet, because I focus on what the relationship means for
my children too.

6. Disclosure Shenanigans

Have I ever disclosed my HIV status to anyone? Yes. Was it easy? Hell no!
Anytime I plan on disclosing, fear creeps in. This fear can stop a
relationship from starting; it can also prevent a relationship from ending.
In fact, one of the most difficult dilemmas I’ve ever faced was whether to
stay with someone who knows my status so that I don't have to disclose to
someone else.
