Hey Denise,
First off, I apologize for my reactionary response above, I was having a
moment and tired of the same messages and updates being repeated in fancy
hotels to basically the same folks who were at the last conference where
all of that information was shared in another fancy hotel less than a month
ago at a national conference. I am having a bit of a problem with the costs
associated with all of these updates that seemingly repeat the exact
information we have readily available online.
I do realize it is a webinar available afterwards, I just wonder if a few
bucks could be saved by just having a live webinar with a panel as we do
for many updates with various organizations across the country and the
globe. I have met Dr. Montaner several times and have worked as you know
at St. Paul's hospital in clinic and know the global signifigence and
impacts of his contributions to HIV research. I have heard him speak many
times. He is a formidable contributor to the HIV/AIDS movement. I even
find him charming at times. I am glad you are happy with his care and that
he works for you! I completely understand and meant no disrespect to him
as a Dr.
I just find the "entourage" of politics and media that surrounds him to be
dominated with MSM concerns/comments and much less on women's and
children's HIV care. Maybe that's the medias fault somewhat, but also it is
most certainly the reason he is housed at BCCFE and St. Paul's hospital.
The reality that we as women have a choice in the lower mainland to choose
between women's centred care at Oak Tree clinic, or wrap around care with
in house blood results (all blood results for the province come from St.
Paul's I believe) at St. Paul's is a testament to the cutting edge care we
have access too in this province. Both facilities are leading the way in
HIV research and for that I am extremely grateful. I believe in the need,
in fact, necessity for Women's centred care and for that reason I get my
care at OakTree. Somedays there can be a wait, but it's generally because
someone is in need of extra time, so I can wait for the time when that
might be me. Lately that hasn't been the case at all, and I rarely wait 5
minutes past my scheduled time. I love it there and it works for me. I also
completely respect, and whole heartedly understand your choice of care with
Dr. Montaner and in no way meant to dismiss him as a Dr.
I was mostly complaining how many times we update the recent updates...I
was having a grumpy morning. Thanks Denise, hope this lands better with
you.
Shelly☺
