[Viva] IMPORTANT/Re:Viva meeting/ please read

Hi Viva women,
The Viva standing committee met with the executive of Positive Living
Society.
We discussed how Viva has fit into the society over the last 5 years and
looked at the possibilities for the near future. It was a good meeting and
we have the full support of the society.

At the meeting Ross Harvey asked a very interesting question that has stuck
with me. He wanted to know why women haven't been protesting the closing of
PWN?
I know for myself, I haven't felt welcome there for many years, but it got
me thinking and I wonder if members haven't protested because they haven't
felt like they had much of a say in the organization?
When PWN was first founded it was positive women with their allies, side by
side. Over the years poz women became predominately recipients of services
and/or volunteers. It's been a long time since PWN had positive women as
equals within the organization ... so maybe we haven't had a voice?

This is an excellent opportunity for viva women to seize. We can make
something beautiful happen, by and for positive women, side by side with
our allies...
But it is up to us to make it happen! We will need all hands on deck! If we
want services and programs for positive women everyone needs to step up in
whatever capacity you can.
Immediately we need:

   - New members on the Standing Committee
   - Women on the board of Positive Living
   - Writers for 'Sister to Sister'
   - Help with grants and funding
   - And much more...


I missed the Viva annual meeting (due to illness) so if you signed up to
volunteer for something at that time - please let me know (I don't have the
sign up sheet).
