[Viva] More on Leadership training

I have said many times that PLDI provided far and above the best all around
leadership and peer to peer support training I have ever received. All
three (actually 4 now with *Mental Health First Aid Training*, correct
Kath?) levels formed the foundation of so much of my practice both as a
Peer Navigator, and as an program administrator, as well as in my personal
life. The basics resonate for years and pop up in my daily life all of the
time. The trainings provide personal insight to grow and thrive in the HIV
community, particularly if one works in the field of HIV support,
facilitation or administration.

*Bored get on Board* may not be the sexiest of the three trainings but its
the ONLY practical training I have heard about in the HIV community. It
will inspire you to consider whether you are "Board of Directors" material,
if it interests and where your strengths and weaknesses lay as a board
member. It will help you realize your voice as contributing member and how
effectively to use it. How to dance the politics that is board governance
and how you can truly make changes at a board level! I learned alot through
this course.

I have considered running for a Board position at PLBC, but haven't made a
decision. I believe the AGM is held in August, something for all ViVA women
to consider. They certainly need some strong women directors behind that
organization. The Board of Directors at PLBC has long been in need of
stronger representation of women, and leaders in the community. Considering
all of the cut backs and changes in the HIV community, and their upcoming
move, I think we would be well served to ensure a strong Board of Directors
is in place as we move forward into 2018 and beyond.

So thats a *5 star rating on PLDI training* and a nudge of encouragement to
any maybe board members out there. Carpe diem!
