Hi Viva women,
This is reposted with permission from Romari, who has moved to Scotland. I
sort of pieced it together from 2 emails from her (Thanks Romari! we miss
you too!!) M.
Great to hear from you. I have just been catching up on posts and emails
since my travel home to Scotland. I hit the wall with jet lag and have been
sleeping a lot since I arrived back from NYC on Friday.
Of course you may share the news on Jessica. It was tremendous to see her
accept the award, only to be overshadowed by her amazing and surprising
news of being pregnant with not one but two babies! Talk about causing a
stir in a room!
It was another crazy coincidence that I was in NYC when Jessica was to be
honoured at the VisualAIDS VaVoom Gala! Yes, I attended and sat at her
table along with her sister, aunt, father and a few other friends,
including Doloris Dockrey.
It was quite the evening and her acceptance speech was fabulous, ending
with a rock the world punch line! She is pregnant .... And with twins! Talk
about leaving an audience gobsmacked! As it filtered into out collective
minds, their was a roar and everyone up on their feet to cheers and
thunderous applause!
Participating in this 30th anniversary NYC AIDS Walk they day before and
then attending this gala celebrating Jessica was a most and life affirming
and memorable experience for me.
I don't know quite how to explain, but walking through Central Park in the
AIDS Walk has somehow changed me in a very significant way! I feel
different in every way.
My very personal highlight of participating along 30,000 people in the 30th
anniversary of the New York City AIDS Walk! It was a glorious experience
for me, and a great gift to have as I too was celebrating my 30th
anniversary of my diagnosis! None of this had been planned, I just happened
to be in the City at the time this was all happening. To me, it was like
the Universe was giving me a huge celebration of life!
I miss all my family and friends in Canada but for me, I am on more solid
ground living here in my birthplace. The Walk for me was a turning point to
in recognizing that in surviving the last 30 years, I want to start anew
and thriving for however many more years I have left to live!
Romari
